Who am I to be Somebody?

“I always wondered why somebody didn’t do something about that; then I realised that I am somebody.”  Anon

Does this strike a chord with you? There are certainly times when I have at least thought this comment, but haven’t felt strongly enough about the situation to move past the excuses why I’m not taking action. We read something that feels bad in a newspaper, see a news report on TV, or witness something more close to home. We wonder why nobody is doing anything about it.

Sometimes the thought, “What could I do,” gets in our way because we don’t have a strong enough why. Our life is getting by the way it is and we don’t want to volunteer for this new ‘cause’ to come between us and our family. We already feel that life is stressful enough. We haven’t got the time or energy. We don’t have the contacts to make the necessary changes. How could I make a difference? This is why it is usually the ‘someone’ who has lost a loved one, or feels very strongly that they are the one to lead the battle. Have you had a time when you have been the ‘somebody’ to start making the changes happen?

I just looked up as I was typing and saw a quote that I have in front of me. “Whatever you are willing to put up with is exactly what you will have.”  So think of this the next time you wonder why someone else hasn’t done something about the situation you are concerned about, and feel the satisfaction of being the somebody who has taken action!

Do You Radiate Heavy or Light Energy?

“Don’t be weighed down by things that drain your energy! If it doesn’t bring you joy, chuck it, change it, or rearrange it!”  Ralph Waldo Emerson

I wonder if the word chuck was used in this context back in Emerson’s day. However I’m sure the sentiment was there. If we believe in the Law of Attraction then we will only attract things that drain our energy of joy if we don’t, ‘chuck it, change it, or rearrange it!’ I know it does sound like we are being encouraged to think we should only be happy and joyful all the time. This is certainly something we can aspire to and work towards but being human I know that there are a bunch of other emotions inside of me that are far from being happy and joyful. How can we enjoy the happiness if we don’t experience the sadness that was depicted in the movie, ‘Inside Out.’

However, there are some things we can do to dial up the amount of happiness or the intensity of it. We can mix with friends who have similar aspirations who work on looking at the positivity of life, who are grateful and appreciative. If you allow the rooms in your house to be cluttered and messy then this may drain your energy every time you look at that room. If you are eating a diet that is not wholesome and energising you may find it difficult to have the exercise you need to keep you on top of your game, to tidy up the mess, or to fit in the extra activities you want. Having enough sleep is something I have found over the years can have a huge impact on how I tackle the day. Then I just don’t get weighed down by anything as much.

Enjoy dialling into the joy!

How Much Fun do You Have in Your Life?

“Life is meant to be fun and abundant. This is your truth!”  David Childerly

A couple of years ago I attended a workshop where the leader asked us to put down the names of 3 people we admired. Mine were Thought Leaders and Change Agents. We were then asked to list the attributes that these people had that attracted us to them. The third step was to notice if there was a common thread. And yes it was FUN! That surprised me, as I am a responsible person. I would have thought it would have had to have been something more ‘meaningful’ than fun.

We all have all attributes in us and if we have noticed them in someone else then they are in us. That sent me on a quest to find out what fun looked like to me. I realised that it can mean so many different things to different people. Coming from a responsible family household I found sport was my legitimate way to have fun as a teenager. I might not be the life and soul of the party but I can enjoy the energy of fun that others create. I don’t judge it as something that should be locked up in a box. I can enjoy watching a humorous movie or the humour of others around me. What is it for you?

Abundance can also look different depending on your perspective. Most people seem to associate abundance with the monetary variety but that does not have to be the only equation you have with the word abundant. I read about someone suggest that we look at the things in our lives that are abundant – I have an abundance of elephants, as I have collected them over the years. Maybe the fun you have in your life is abundant.

Enjoy the fun and abundance in your life!

Do You Believe You are One of a Kind?

“You were born an original. Don’t die a copy.”

We’re told the probability of how many millions of sperm fight to fertilise an egg and therefore how special and unique we are. Apparently there is no one else in the world like us and I haven’t the time to bother trying to dispute that. We may have physical characteristics and ways of behaving that are like other family members but ultimately none of them are exactly like YOU. Knowing that to be true can be a catalyst to utilise the talents you have and make a difference in the world. It doesn’t have to be like the first person to fly to the moon or create Virgin airlines. But even as a parent we can chose to bring our children up with certain beliefs that ultimately help them reach their potential and recognise their own uniqueness.

Looking into someone else’s life from the outside may look appealing. We may think they are achieving something we are not. For whatever reason we may strive to be like them and in so doing neglect the talents and skills we have to offer the world.  For some people it can feel uncomfortable to step outside the crowd, be the tall poppy that we love to hate in New Zealand. To neglect to live our purpose can cause us to feel unhappy or even ill. This uniqueness will continue until the day we die. Don’t allow the fears you have, stop you from being that unique being you came into the world to be, so you die with all your dreams and desires fulfilled as unique as you were when you were born.

Enjoy being YOU!
