What is Influencing Your Decisions?

“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.”   Anon

I have just had a book recommended to me , “Childhood Disrupted. How Your Biography Becomes Your Biology and How You Can Heal.” By Donna Jackson-Nakazawa. This could be quite a depressing read if it wasn’t so fascinating. The biography of adults who have had ‘Adverse Childhood Experiences, (ACE) has been shown conclusively, through all sorts of research, to predictably lead to cancers, heart disease, autoimmune conditions, anxiety and depression, as an adult, years later. Donna herself having had ACEs, and a journalist, has managed to put across the science while interspersing with case histories of adults now in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. She makes it a very interesting read. I haven’t finished reading it yet but I understand that there are some things we can do to cheat those statistics and live the life we know we were born to have. I have resisted the urge to flip the pages and get to that part earlier rather than later.

Within that change however, is the desire to no longer accept that our past is writing our story going forward. If you are not already consciously working towards your destiny, when are you going to decide to be the person who is willing to step up to the plate and play your life as you know you can? Each day is the start of the rest of your life, in fact every hour or minute. The decision is yours in any given moment whether to live your life on purpose or stay stuck where you are. I’m not saying this lightly as for some of us this is not easy to do. If you make the decision to be that person you are destined to become, the health benefits could be ‘worth their weight in gold.’

Enjoy making the decisions!

Have You Heard How Tapping Can Create Calm?

“Instead of believing the world is plotting to do you harm, choose to believe the world is plotting to do you good. Instead of seeing every difficult challenging event as a negative, see it for what it could be – something that is meant to enrich you, empower you, or advance your causes.”  W. Clement Stone

Many a time I have felt the world is up to no good. But if I look at the life I have lived so far and I see how great it has been, I can’t help but say, “I am divinely guided.” The trick is to see that, at the time you are in the thick of feeling everyone and everything is against you? How do you turn you mood of negatives into positives? Do you go for a walk, do a spot of meditating, mouth off to a friend? One thing that helps me is to do a some meridian tapping or Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

Tonight I gave a presentation about this simple technique to a room full of people who hadn’t ever heard of it. From the comments, I believe they enjoyed the experience. I suggested to them as I’m now doing for you, to go on to Youtube and put in Tapping for…. Whatever you put there, there will be someone who has posted it. Tapping uses acupuncture points to lower the stress levels in your body. And I’m not talking about just the stress from problems at work. I’m talking about feeling strong emotions, having financial difficulties, speaking in front of an audience, the list goes on. If you want to turn around those negative responses into something more empowering it is definitely something to have a go at.

Enjoy tapping to feel calmer!

A Tribute to Wayne Dyer!

I feel moved to look at a quote from Wayne Dyer today.  He had a strong influence on my need to connect with my own spirituality. When I heard he was speaking in Auckland, I was very keen to be present. I was lucky enough be part of that audience 2 days before he died.

“Stop acting as if life is a rehearsal. Live this day as if it were your last. The past is over and gone. The future is not guaranteed.”

In light of his passing on August the 29th this is a very poignant quote. He had not long finished writing a book about his life, “I Can See Clearly Now.” This was one of the 42 he wrote. He certainly lived the words of this quote, showed us how to do it. Judging from all the tributes that have been on face book and on various websites, he will be sorely missed. However we can still gain positive, uplifting help from his many books and audio contributions.

He seemed dedicated to reaching out to as many people as he could, to help us live as spiritual beings in a human body. He was not someone who was born with a silver spoon is mouth. He was very public about his relationship with the alcoholic father who abandoned the family, leading to him spending many of his formative years in orphanages and social homes.

And then how his life turned around when he visited the grave of his father and turned his feelings of hate and vengeance to love and forgiveness. I am often talking about the choices we make in life, so I am finishing with another of Wayne’s quotes:

“Our lives are a sum total of the choices we have made.”

RIP Wayne Dyer

What do You do With Your Free Time?

“No such thing as spare time. No such thing as free time. No such thing as down time. All you’ve got is life time. Go!   Henry Rollins

I have been conscious of time since I was a teenager. Always feeling it is the most important commodity we have in our lives. I’m judgemental of people who waste time. But aah what is wasting time I hear you ask? We all have a concept of what is important to us and of course the times when we should or shouldn’t do whatever, comes into the equation as well. There can be days when I’m in my busyness and I see people interacting and I think, “I should do more of that.” There are other days when I’m enjoying my time socialising and think, “I really need to be working.”

This is where mindfulness comes in. If we have chosen to be working then it is important to be 100% committed to the space we are in right now with no regrets. The same goes for the time we enjoy with friends and family. If we have planned some ‘downtime’ from the busyness of our lives we can then look forward to the break from work knowing we deserve to be having fun with friends. But we should not consider that time as spare time, free time or down time but rather purposeful self-support time that is part of our life time.

Enjoy your life time
